ARTIST RECEPTION: Romero | Romero: Two Generations of Artists

An exhibition of paintings, prints, and art installations by artists Sonia and Frank Romero (father and daughter)

LOCATION: Plaza de la Raza, 3540 N. Mission Rd., Los Angeles, CA 90031 (off the 5 Freeway one mile north of Downtown’s Brewery Arts Complex)

ADMISSION: FREE (also open daily through October 1 on Monday-Friday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM)

Plaza de la Raza is the only multidisciplinary cultural arts and educational center dedicated to serving Eastside communities in Los Angeles. Founded in 1970 by prominent labor, business and civic leaders, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit offers affordable after-school, intergenerational arts education programs to nearly 5,000 children, teens and adults each year. Annually, Plaza presents more than 500 classes, which are taught quarterly by local artists and performers, and over 25,000 visitors attend its free cultural programs. Plaza’s small staff is supported by about 300 community volunteers.

2011 Target Feria de la Familia
Sunday, July 24, 12 noon to 6 PM

Enjoy free music, dance, art activities, storytelling, and more for the entire family at Plaza de la Raza in Lincoln Heights (East L.A.). Check out the Target Stage featuring Latin rock-world band La Santa Cecilia, Ozomatli’s Raul Pacheco and The Immaculate Conception, and rock en Español retro, boss nova-influenced band Chicano Batman. Visit the Margo Albert Theatre for performances by Bob Baker Marionettes, We Tell Stories, and more. Don’t miss folklórico dancing and mariachi music by Plaza’s award-winning youth and adult performers, too.

Premiering at the 2011 Target Feria de la Familia on July 24 are two exhibitions: Romero | Romero, paintings and prints by renowned father/daughter artists Frank & Sonia Romero (on view in the Boathouse Gallery until October 1) and Con Nuestras Manos / With Our Hands, artwork by Plaza students (on view in the Margo Albert Theater Lobby until December 11). After the festival, the exhibitions will be open to the public free of charge during regular operating hours of Monday-Friday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
