Lazaro Arvizu is a long-time dance instructor at Plaza de la Raza, teaching and preserving the Azteca dance tradition. He is also a multi-talented artisan who specializes in beading, traditional Mexican feather work, and regalia. He began to study the arts and traditions of the Mexica tribe as a child in Mexico City and at an early age toured with Florencio Yescas’ Esplendor Azteca. He is the director of his own dance company Xipe Totec, which regularly travels and performs throughout the city including Placita Olvera as well various Native American gatherings, colleges, universities, and numerous other educational and cultural events throughout the United States.
